About
Oakley Park is situated in Fleet, just a few minutes’ walk from the high street and station. The Park covers five acres and consists of two distinct areas: a two-acre open space with leisure facilities, pathways, a football pitch and refreshment area; and three acres of woodland nature reserve and pond.
Set up in 1989 by local residents who were concerned about the lack of investment in Oakley Park, the Friends’ objectives are to work towards maintaining and improving Oakley Park for the benefit of the local community and to promote the preservation of the woodlands as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation [SINC].
We are a not for profit, local community group, that works within Oakley Park enhancing the activities undertaken by Fleet Town Council. We hold two volunteer working parties each year, one in the spring and the other in the autumn.
Over time, we have planted thousands of bulbs, enlarged the pond, and added an orienteering course, a pavilion garden, five picnic benches and interpretation boards. The children’s play facilities have been improved and are now in a secure gated area. A number of added attractions are the basketball ring, climbing boulder, a tyre swing and a flymobile.
