We are looking for a reliable and tech-savvy volunteer Website Administrator to manage, maintain, and improve our digital presence. Our website is the primary hub for our listeners to live stream, catch up on podcasts, read community news, and find out about our shows. This role will be crucial in ensuring the site remains secure, up-to-date, and user-friendly. You can do this role from your home or at the Radio Station
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Security: Perform regular updates to core software, plugins, and themes (typically WordPress). Ensure regular backups are scheduled and working correctly.
Content Management: Upload and update content provided by the station team, including schedule changes, presenter bios, community news, and blog posts.
Streaming & Audio Integration: Monitor and maintain the integration of our live audio stream and podcast links on the website.
Troubleshooting: Monitor the site for broken links, loading speed issues, or display bugs, and resolve them efficiently.
User Experience (UX): Suggest and implement minor design or layout improvements to make the site more accessible and engaging for our audience.
Analytics & SEO: Monitor basic website traffic via Google Analytics and implement basic SEO best practices to help more people find us.
If you are passionate about web tech and want to support local community media, we would love to hear from you!
Skills
Technical Knowledge: Hands-on experience managing websites, ideally using WordPress (or a similar CMS).
Basic Web Skills: Familiarity with HTML/CSS is a plus; understanding how to embed media players or widgets is highly beneficial.
Reliability: Ability to dedicate a few hours a week consistently and respond to urgent site outages or fixes in a timely manner.
Communication: Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with station presenters and management.
Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently from home, managing your own time and prioritizing tasks.
What’s in it for you?
Enhance Your Portfolio: Gain hands-on experience managing a live, high-traffic website for an active community organization.
Community Impact: Play a vital role in keeping Basingstoke’s local radio station connected with its listeners.
Flexibility: Fit your volunteering hours around your work, studies, or personal life.
