Trustee - with a focus on Data Assurance

Odiham District Scouts comprises nine independent groups across the local area. Scouts UK has renewed its focus on Data Assurance to ensure that data provided to and used by each group is managed in accordance with Scouts UK policies and wider government and industry standards. this helps to support the safety and safeguarding of children and young people who enjoy a range of exciting, challenging and fun experiences in local scouting and also helps those groups to be efficient and compliant. The Trustee for Data Assurance will work with those groups to ensure they have considered data assurance and have local procedures in place to ensure compliance. The Trustee will also ensure that any lessons are learned when things go wrong, as sometimes they do.

The Trustee Board meets once each term to review reports from the nine Group Lead Volunteers. Their teams deliver operational activity to the scores of children in that Group. The Data Assurance Trustee will consider the Data Assurance and Data Safety issues that each one has raised (if any) and determine whether the issue should be shared to improve wider learning. The Data Assurance Trustee may feel that a visit might help understand the issue in more detail. From time to time Scouts UK may ask the District to review an incident that has been reported in order to ensure safety and safeguarding are maintained by correct data management and assurance and lessons are learned. In 2024 there were two instances that required a low-level review. Such a review can be conducted at a time to suit the Safety Trustee and others involved. We anticipate that a Trustee with knowledge of, and experience in, data assurance, will be best placed to provide advice and support to scout groups locally to help them avoid making mistakes.

Skills

An understanding of data assurance in general would be a huge advantage but is not essential. No other specific skills or qualifications are required but an interest in Data Management and Data Assurance, at a basic level, youth development and working as part of a team would be really helpful
