BMF Trustees are volunteers who work collectively to help shape the direction and future of Basingstoke Multicultural Forum. Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring BMF is well governed, financially responsible, follows its charitable purposes and operates effectively. Trustees meet once a month via teams and on the odd occasion face to face at Chute House. The rest of the hours required will be around events, outstanding tasks, important matters, engaging with community leaders/organisations. You don't need to have been a trustee before – we are interested in your commitment, ideas, skills, experience and passion for supporting our diverse local community.
Skills
We would particularly welcome people with experience or knowledge (however it isn’t a necessity) in areas such as:
- Community and voluntary sector – experience working with community groups, charities or local organisations.
- Finance and accounting – budgeting, financial management, bookkeeping or financial oversight.
- Governance and charity management – understanding of trustee responsibilities, policies, compliance and good governance.
- Human resources – recruitment, staff management, employment policies and wellbeing.
- Fundraising and grant applications – identifying funding opportunities, writing applications and developing relationships with funders.
- Legal knowledge – particularly charity, employment, housing, safeguarding or other relevant areas.
- Marketing and communications – social media, publicity, newsletters, websites and promoting BMF's work.
- IT and digital skills – helping BMF make effective use of technology and digital services.
- Housing and community development – particularly useful given BMF's work supporting local residents.
- Safeguarding and equality, diversity and inclusion – knowledge or experience in these areas.
- Project management – planning, delivering and evaluating community projects.
- Business or organisational leadership – strategic planning, partnership working and organisational development.
- Local knowledge and community connections – understanding of Basingstoke's diverse communities and local services.
There are a number of training sessions available to trustees from time to time. If required we will put Trustees forward for various training.
