Treasurer /Company Director acting as a Trustee

The Broadhurst Welcome Home Community Ltd is a limited company awarded charitable status, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our Charitable Objects include the provision of support for people with mental illness who live in the Rushmoor area. We manage a fund which allows us to allocate grants of money to individuals, groups or organisations to support mental health recovery for themselves or those under their care. Our collective duty is to evaluate and award applications for grants, meet the organisations that apply and review those who have been awarded grants to be sure of the effectiveness of the services that we fund. We are looking for an experienced and competent treasurer to join the committee. The time commitment is estimated about 2 hours a month, plus committee meetings. Specific duties include: 

  • keep clear and accurate financial records, produce management accounts, keeping track of spending against ‘budget’ and reporting on the value of investments at each board meeting
  • attend committee meetings (4-6 evenings a year) with 7 other committee members 
  • read the associated papers and reports.
  • model the cashflow requirements (including those arising from 3-year project funding decisions) to ensure that the necessary cash is available when needed and understand the reports and advice from our Investment Managers (BlackRock)
  • manage the online banking and savings accounts
  • present our accounts to the auditors at our year end, and deal with any queries
  • present the accounts to the Trustee board and shareholders at the AGM and ensure the correct signatures for reporting to our regulatory body (which is the responsibility of our company secretary). 
  • check the accounts of organisations making bids, and advise the trustee board on the viability of the financial proposals in the bids. 
  • chair a small finance sub-committee to discuss finance matters outside of board meetings. How this is managed going forward will be the decision of the new treasurer.

Skills


Requirement skills, experience and personal attributes include: 

  • Financial literacy
  • Ability to keep clear and accurate financial records. 
  • Understanding of investments and liaising with Investment Managers.
  • Managing budgets and cash flow, and making recommendations to the trustee board. 
  • Excel spreadsheets, those currently used by the current treasurer will be passed on. 
  • Not be disqualified from becoming a Trustee under the Charities Act.
  • Sympathy for those with mental illness and respect for their needs.
