Beaver leader - Use your skills to help young people gain theirs

The Beaver leader volunteer role involves helping to lead a group of young people aged 6 to 8 in a fun and safe environment. The leader helps plan and deliver the Beaver Scout program, which includes games, activities, and the opportunity to earn badges. The leader will also be part of the Leadership team and will work closely with parents, other volunteers, and the Scout Association to ensure a high-quality program for the Beaver Scouts. 

The role requires enthusiasm, a sense of fun, and basic common sense. Previous Scouting or Guiding experience is not necessary, and the leader will learn new skills by working with other adults and the Beavers themselves.

  • Teamwork: Working collaboratively with other leaders, volunteers, and community members.
  • Adaptability: Being flexible and open to new ideas and approaches in Scouting activities.
  • Patience: Having the patience to work with young people and understand their individual needs.
  • Creativity: Coming up with engaging and fun activities that capture the interest of Scouts.

Other requirements: 

  • Age: You must be at least 18 years old to become a Scout Leader.
  • Training: Complete the mandatory training provided by The Scout Association, which includes modules on leadership, safety, and Scouting principles. ·
  • Background Check: Successfully pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to ensure the safety of young people.
  • First Aid Certification: Obtain a first aid certification to handle any emergencies that may arise during Scouting activities.
  • Commitment: A genuine commitment to the values and principles of Scouting and a willingness to dedicate time and effort to the role.
  • Membership: Register as a member of The Scout Association. Being a Scout Leader is both rewarding and impactful, as it provides opportunities to shape and guide the next generation of young leaders.
