Aldershot is proud to be hosting National Armed Forces Day weekend!

2 June 2026

Rushmoor Voluntary Services are delighted to be responsible for the recruitment of volunteers for the prestigious Armed Forces Day National Event, which will celebrate over 170 years of military heritage through displays, activities and ceremonial traditions that connect visitors with Aldershot and Farnborough’s military past – Aldershot as the traditional home of the British Army and Farnborough as the birthplace of British military aviation.

To be a part of this epic event, thanking our armed forces personnel and their families, past and present, sign up to be an AFD Way Maker volunteer! Volunteers will be an essential part of creating a welcoming and fun event, offering guidance and support to people coming for a great day out.

If you can stand for a few hours, offer a warm smile and stay calm in a busy environment, sign up to be an AFD Way Maker! Sign up here.

Three key roles:

Volunteer  Coordinator

Each shift will have two lead volunteers, who are responsible for the rota, volunteer welfare and first point of contact. They will be the main contact for the event organiser team member responsible for volunteers/personnel.

Way Makers

The bulk of the team will be strategically placed to welcome people, offer a friendly smile, support and guide them to where they want to go. Most will start in the entrance lanes, to scan tickets and signpost to security for bag checks. Some may be runners for event organisers, when needed.

Accessibility Way Makers

A small team to offer support to people who are less ambulant or need a quieter route, from the car park to the entrance and back again at the end. This may involve wheelchair or buggy support.
