Becoming a Trustee
Could you make a difference as a trustee?
Trustees play a vital role in the success of charities and community organisations, helping to shape their future and ensure they continue making a positive impact. Yet more than half of charities are currently experiencing difficulties recruiting trustees, creating an urgent need for people who are willing to share their skills, experience and enthusiasm.
Trustees work together as a board and may be known as governors, directors, committee members or board members. They are responsible for guiding an organisation’s direction, overseeing its finances and helping it achieve its charitable aims. Some trustees may also take on additional roles, such as Chair or Treasurer.
While charities value people with professional expertise in areas such as finance, law, IT or HR, they are equally keen to attract trustees from a wide range of backgrounds. Lived experience, local knowledge, fresh perspectives and a passion for a cause can be just as valuable.
Becoming a trustee is an excellent way to develop new skills, build confidence, broaden your professional experience and make a meaningful contribution to your local community. It can also enhance your CV by demonstrating leadership, strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
Local charities and community groups are looking for committed individuals to help them respond to emerging challenges, strengthen their services and support the communities that rely on them.
